What can happen as you deal with issues this week is falling prey to the ‘tyranny of the minimum standard’.
For example, one of my sons did less than the minimum in regards to one of his chores – cleaning the wood floors in our house. I didn’t let the conversation go where it could have easily gone – did he clean them or not. That’s not going to change his behavior, it’ll be a continuing burden on me, and a source of contention.
Instead, I asked if he did an excellent job and the burden stays where it should – in his hands.
I’m going to be more successful dealing with these issues this week because I’m going for the ‘maximum standard’. I’m going for excellence. Everyone wants to be better, even a teenage boy….
What does this mean for you?
Make the maximum standard the focus when dealing with issues this week.
