You’ve heard of the 80/20 Principle – there are a small number of causes (the vital few) that are responsible for a majority of the results in the world.
80/20 is a label to point-out that there are imbalances in the world. These imbalances can be 80/20, 90/10 or 70/30. . .
For example, 10% of the music ever recorded is played on the radio 90% of the time. Men wear 30% of their wardrobe 70% of the time, 20% of your clients are responsible for 80% of your profits, etc…
The irony is, we leaders allow things that don’t really matter, or the trivial many, like office drama or checking email, consume our day and squeeze-out time from the vital few.
How do you take advantage of this principle? Start with yourself by spending one, 90 minute block of uninterrupted time a day on the vital few activities that are responsible for a majority of a company’s success – implementing strategy, implementing business development and implementing culture.
